As I prepare to tackle 2015 head on, I thought I should take a look back at where I was one year ago.
What goals had I set for myself back last January?
Had I accomplished all of my goals?
Were there any worth repeating?
So let's do a side by side comparison...
I have a feeling this is gonna hurt my pride a bit.

GOALRUN A HALF MARATHON RUN A FULL MARATHON 1000 MILES IN 2014 MAKE FRIENDS BLOG MORE CONSISTENTLY TAKE CONTROL OF MY FINANCES EAT HEALTHIER | REALITYCHECK! Whoo-hoo! Starting off with a win! It doesn't hurt that when I set this goal, I was already signed up to participate in the Franklin Half. Lessons learned: Races I sign up for - I do. So if I really want to challenge myself and accomplish a goal, I need to commit to it. Womp-Womp. Ok, but to be fair, I didn't exactly seem the most enthusiastic about this goal back then either. And I have no more enthusiasm for it now than I do then. Needless to say, running a full marathon will NOT be on this year's list of things to do. I have no idea. I honestly don't. I didn't do a very good job of tracking my miles. But I can say with pretty confident certainty that I did NOT rack up those glorious 1000 miles. Most months were not even close to the 83 miles per month average I would need to reach this goal. DING-DING-DING! Last January, the sum total of people I considered friends here in Nashville could be counted on one hand. And now I would need both hands, and possibly even my feet. I finally am starting to feel at home here in the South and my friends have gone a long way towards helping me feel that way. Yay for dog parks and running clubs! F - For Failure, Not Fabulous. I definitely did NOT blog more consistently. If anything, my blogging became even more erratic. But again, this is a work in progress. C. Maybe a C+. I know I have a LONG way to go on this. But I'm trying. I really am. I'm learning as I go and unfortunately, this one is hard for me. I make no excuses, but I am making efforts to improve. By the end of 2015 I will have this shit on lock though. Or at least have a B. B for effort? My fridge all too often resembles that of a broke fraternity brother. I just ate a twinkie right before eating this blog. BUT! More than ever I have been actively thinking about what I put in my body. I won't make excuses for those times I still grabbed breakfast at McDonald's or for all the Coke's I consumed over the past year, but I've also eaten more salad and read more food labels than ever before in my previous 29 years of existence. |
Overall, I still have a long way to go. And looking at this list, I know that there are many of these goals that I will continue to work on in 2015. Just because 2014 is over, doesn't mean I have to give up on these goals. I just need to look back at what I did, see what worked and what didn't, and continue improving myself. I know I'll be setting some specific goals for myself over the next couple weeks in terms of my personal life, my professional life, and my running and fitness goals, but for now I look back and see that while I didn't achieve everything I had hoped for in 2014, what I did accomplish was getting one step closer to the person I want to be. And I'm ok with that.
