Soooo... where were we? Oh right...
Last "real" post was a re-cap of the Spartan Race Sprint in Indianapolis... So, what have I been up to since then? So, if you follow my twitter, you probably have seen me use #FranklinTNHalf. And if you haven't, I'm going to tell you now.
I'm running the Franklin Half Marathon. This is my very first half marathon and apparently, I have chosen a difficult one. Typical responses to people who find out I'm running this race are as follows: "Wow... You must like hills." "You know it's going to be warm out then, right?" "You must not like yourself very much." Runvy:
(noun) From the English language. A combination of run and envy. A feeling of discontent and jealousy over seeing someone else running, particularly when you can't. And man, have I got the worst case of runvy ever. Like, if I see someone running on my way home today, I may hit them with my car. Ok, maybe not. But still... In honor of #ThrowBackThursday and it being Thursday and almost time for this race to happen again this year, I thought I'd throw it back to my experience with my very first ever trail 10K, the Hurt the Dirt Challenge brought to you by Michigan Adventure Racing.
I had seen this race advertised on facebook and what initially intrigued me was the medals being given out for the half and full marathon distances... They were pretty much the sweetest medals ever... Obviously, the answer is YES.
But Jessica, what is so special about Ragnar Trail? What makes it the best race ever?!? Those are questions you might ask youself. They are understandable questions. So let me answer those questions for you with the Top Five Reasons Ragnar Trail relay races are the hands-down best races ever. Last summer, when I started my runstreak, I was at a point where I seriously needed some motivation to start running more consistently. And when that runstreak ended, I was heartbroken. I honestly could have run at that point, but I was both mentally and physically exhausted...
And I knew that even though my runstreak had only last a couple months, I would still be able to keep up with my running. The runstreak had served its purposes: Getting my ass out the door and on the roads. And I will be forever grateful for that motivation. So a few weeks ago, I had the genius idea. For my "Dirty Thirty" Birthday Celebration, I was gonna get dirty.
REAL DIRTY. And thanks to some help from the nice folks at Spartan Race and some Georgia Clay, I did excatly that. And I couldn't have thought of a better way to spend my thirtieth birthday. :) (And yes, I'm 30. I know I look younger. The guys at the office joked that I was finally going to be old enough to vote. Or buy beer. Real funny, guys!) This COULD be my review of the Cupid's Undie Run, a unique one to one and a half mile run through your city in an effort to raise money for The Children's Tumor Foundation.
It could be an eloquent discussion on body image, conquering fears, and challenging your conceptions. Or, it could be a post entirely about my hunt for the perfect underwear to run in. With no intention of wearing pants over said underwear. Oh goodness. This past Saturday, I did my first race of the new year!
My first race of the 2014 season was the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K. I originally wasn't sure I was going to even run this race. I was supposed to be traveling to Orlando this particular weekend, but those plans got cancelled. Even once they got cancelled, I still hadn't signed up for any events. But I realized that: a) I need races on my schedule to keep me motivated and b) The Hot Chocolate 15K/5K was on my racing bucket list. And with the event being held right in downtown Nashville, it was too easy to go ahead and sign up! Plus, They always have a pretty sweet swag bag. More on that later! |
