In honor of #ThrowBackThursday and it being Thursday and almost time for this race to happen again this year, I thought I'd throw it back to my experience with my very first ever trail 10K, the Hurt the Dirt Challenge brought to you by Michigan Adventure Racing.
I had seen this race advertised on facebook and what initially intrigued me was the medals being given out for the half and full marathon distances... They were pretty much the sweetest medals ever...

Finishers of the Half and Full Marathon each recieved wooden medallions, carved with the logo as their reward for finishing what is pretty much one of the most brutal courses I've ever been on.
I knew I wouldn't be ready for the half marathon distance yet, but thought this would be a good warmup for the Riverbank Run 10K I was planning on a few weeks after.
Boy was it ever.

This course was kill-ah! It had more switchbacks and direction changes than you could have thought possible for a 10K course. You would run up a hill, only to reach the top and be told to go right back down and up a different side...
Geeze louise!
That's the pretty bright red chunk you see up top there... Right before Mile 6, when you're already exhausted from the mountain bike trails and thinking you're close to being done.. LIES, I TELL YOU!
Sadly, I don't have as many pictures from this event as I would have liked. (READ: NONE.) But I will tell you it's a gorgeous course, and the improvements that they have made to it this year include a Pig Roast post-race celebration, over $16,000 in prizes from Patagonia (LEGIT. HUGE DEAL.), tons of prizes from Gazelle Sports, and all sorts of other sweet swag.
PLUS, in my opinion, Michigan Adventure Racing always gives out the best race tees. Bar-none, hands down. All my favorite tess are from them.
It's an amazing race and I would totally tell you to go and sign up and check them out...
Except they're so awesome they sold out months ago and the waiting lists are also ALL FULL UP. How sweet is that? That being said, definitely put this one on your calendar for 2015. I know I will!
#runlove, y'all!
