Welcome, welcome, welcome!!!
My name is Jessica and I am a newly converted run-aholic. Lemme tell you a lil' about myself and my new found love of running.
I ran in middle school and high school, but mostly for the social aspect. Track was what everyone did, so I did it as well. But my big thing was competitive cheerleading. When I got to high school, track kinda took a back seat and I focused on cheerleading pretty much all year round. As far as I was concerned, the running we did for conditioning was more than enough.
So when I graduated high school, I dropped the running altogether and focused on coaching cheerleading. I was lucky enough to do that for ten years at some great schools and made some great relationships through that. I even coached high school track for a couple years as an assistant, working with sprinters and field events.
Then in 2012 I quit coaching. Cold turkey. I went from coaching year-round (Cheerleading starts in April and ends in March, you can see how it can take up an entire life!) to not coaching at all. And I had tons of newly found free time.

Around the same time, I realized that I was starting to get OLD. And my previously intense metabolism was slowing down and my horrible eating habits were starting to catch up to me. Who knew you couldn't eat pizza and beer and call it a "diet?"
So I decided to take up running. It seemed like a good way to stay active, shed some of those extra unwanted pounds, and get myself back into shape. Plus, without coaching in my life, I seriously needed to find a new hobby to occupy my free time.
I signed up for my first "adventure race" (The Grand Rapids Mud Run) and began using the Pooch to 5k running program to get myself and my dog back into fighting form.

And thus the obsession began. Once I had signed up for one race, I needed to sign up for more (practice!) and more (cool prizes!) and even more (This will be totally badass!)... And what started out as a cheap, inexpensive hobby (I mean, I already had running shoes, right?) suddenly became a life changing decision. And I've never once regretted it. :)
So, feel free to follow along with my on my blog, which I will post with updates pretty regularly (couple of times a week?), as well as on facebook and twitter. Those are prettty obsessively updated, so be fore-warned: I post - A LOT.
I hope you'll find something useful or entertaining on my blog and that you'll stick with me on these crazy running adventures.
And hey, if you need anything, just say the word. :)
And, since for me, it's all about my love of running...
#runlove, y'all!
