Maybe I Should Try Training?

So I was thinking about this the other day...

Pretty much every runner I know has some sort of training plan that they follow.

Run long this day.

Run short this day.

Go faster.  Go slower.

Race pace.  Recovery pace. 

It's all so much!  My training plan at the current moment can be best summarized as "winging it."

Virtual Runs?

Dwight has it right.  I have a question.

So the other day, I'm scanning through facebook and I see someone I follow mentions a "Bazinga Half Marathon."  The finisher medal looks like this sweet bazinga logo piece of shiny-ness and I'm instantly drawn to it like a moth to a flame.  And there were several reasons:
1) I love shiny things.  Like a magpie.
2) I love Big Bang Theory.  Bazinga is in my daily vocabulary.
3) I liked the idea of having another "half marathon" to motivate me to finally work my way up to that 13.1 mile distance.

But then I thought, This says it's a virtual run...  What the heck is a virtual run?

Questions.  I have lots of questions.

NEW RECORDS!

Ok, so it's not a HUGE deal...


But I'm pretty excited that on Friday I set a new PR for my fastest mile in a LONG time.  Probably since high school.  Freshmen year.  Back when 'NSYNC were together the first time and not doing reunions on the VMA's. 

Just sayin'.

And, as a secondary note, since I set my fastest mile record, I also set a new record for my fastest 1K.  They pretty much go hand-in-hand, but I appreciate that Nike felt it should recognize both.  No discrimination towards the metric system here!

It's Glow Time!

So last night, I took Coley on her first real experience as a Race Volunteer!

I had known that It's Glow Time 5K was coming to Grand Rapids, and as much fun as I thought it would be, the truth of the matter is I'm kinda flat broke right about now.  Living on a steady diet of Pizza Rolls purchased when they were on sale at Meijer's 10 for $10. (With the 11th free!)

*Side note: I don't know what people would do without Meijer's.  If you live outside the Mid-West, I pity you.  I basically live off this one store.  Well, that and Target.  :)*

ANYWAYS!  FOCUS!

So Coley and decided that if we didn't have money to spend running the race, the next best thing would be to volunteer!

So one of the things I've been doing recently, is start following all these different communities on facebook and twitter that focus on running.

They all offer a lot of great tips and it's a easy way to make new friends to talk about running with.  Because, let's be honest, my non-running friends are sick of hearing about it.

One of those communities was a facebook page named "Scrambled Legs Running."  They had posted the following message one day:

One Month Anniversary!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ME!!!

Today's run will officially mark 28 days, or one month of my #runstreak.

I'm so pumped!  I feel better as a runner and I'm in general happier than I was when I started back at the end of July.

I know it will get harder to keep the streak going as it gets longer and longer, but I'm still pretty excited about it.

Just thought I would share with you all!!

Sorry for the short post - SLAMMED and UNDERSTAFFED is a bad combination on a Friday in my office.  So, I'm back to work after inhaling my lunch.  I'll try to get another post up later today before I head home for the weekend!

The Run You Don't Want...

I have a confession to make today.

Yesterday, I almost ended my runstreak.

I know, I was about to hit Day 26 in my streak, but what I had planned for a nice leisurely 6 mile trail day turned into a horrible, no good, very bad day.



So as I sat there in my truck, I thought "It wouldn't be so bad would it?  To just not run for one day?"
