Ok, so since this is my FIRST WEEKLY RECAP OF 2014 (Insert moment of self-congratulations here), I've decided it's gonna be a Weekly Recap Plus. That means I'm gonna go all the way back to January 1st, when I re-started my runstreak.
This is gonna be one of those posts that seems to ramble at times, but really has a point that's pretty important. I beg of you, bear with me, and I promise the journey will be worth the final reward.
One of my favorite things to do is to get lost.
Ok, maybe that's an over-simplification of things. What I really like to do is to challenge myself to find new places I have never been, places outside of the beaten path. Secret spots, that people might just otherwise drive past during the course of their regular day-to-day lives.
This is just a brief post to share some pretty exciting news.
I'd write more, but I got to the gym late tonight because I had sit at my apartment and wait for my cable guy to NOT show up, even after the nice lady on the phone promised me I was the next customer.
(I'm not gonna name names, but the company rhymes with Domcast. Just saying.)
Anyways, that SUPER good news is that the #runstreak is back, baby!
WOOT WOOT!
Ok, it's only day two. And I've only done a mile each day, but you know what?!?! It's a friggen start. What is it that famous old dude said?
"One small step step for man, one giant leap for runstreakers everywhere."
Ok, ok... I may be paraphrasing... A bit. A smidgen. Don't judge me. I'm just so excited!
How about y'all?!?! Has Day Two of the New Year been kind? Still hitting those resolutions?
'Cause you know... Everybody's Doing It.
#runlove, y'all!
P.S. So much thanks to Will Ferrell and those nice folks who wrote Old School, without which the whole "Going streaking" thing would not be so hilarious. Seriously. Big props.
Ok, so on the verge of seeming cliched, I figure the best way to hold myself accountable to my goals for the new year is to broadcast them far and wide for all to read. Then y'all can call me on my B.S. when I fail to uphold my end of the bargain or feel like slackin'.
Here's hoping that the collective of the internet can do something positive and keep me on track. :)
So here it is; my list of "resolutions" for the new year!
Mariah Carey's iconic "All I Want For Christmas" may be the title of this post, but it definitely runs more along along the lines of my personal all-time favorite Christmas Song, "Santa Baby."
You choose. Eartha Kitt, Marilyn Monroe, or Bettie Boop. All good.
And this was a pretty good year for me, running wise. Next year I could be just as good, if you'll check off my Christmas list... Boo doo bee doop!
And despite that fact that I now live south of the Mason-Dixon, I've decided it's still too damn cold. Which means this is the time of year I move most of my training to the indoors. And luckily, my Planet Fitness membership followed me to Nashville and there happens to be a gym just down the road and around the corner. The perks of being a Black Card member, I suppose!
And, because as all runners know, the treadmill (from here on out referred to as the "dreadmill") is the bane of my existence, winter is the time of year when I generally tend to focus more on weight training than on running.
So I'll be the first to admit, that while I enjoy spontaneity as much as the next gal, I am, very much, a creature of habit.
I find comfort in routine and predictability. And while I enjoy those times when things get crazy and hectic, those are the times when I fall back into my old habits of eating poorly, not exercising, and not getting enough sleep.
And that's what happened the past few weeks. Life got in the way, as the saying goes.
I figured that with a #runstreak, you probably didn't need to see a post from me every day saying "Hey guys, I'm still at it. Don't worry. I got this." So once a week or so I'll post an update about how I'm doing and what my milage was. Plus, since it's August now (EEK!), it seemed like a good time to do a re-cap of my milage from the past month!
